2016 Nevada Reads

Mark Maynard

"Throughout the volume's eight tenuously linked tales, lives and fortune are lost, and the city of Reno emerges as a locus of shattered souls. Maynard's debut collection bursts with idiosyncratic characters…packs a strong emotional punch…is strangely entertaining." -Publishers Weekly

About the Author

Mark Maynard grew up on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in Incline Village, NV, a very small town that blessed him with enough quirky characters to populate a lifetime of stories.

He left the slopes of Tahoe for the shores of the Pacific, attending college at the University of San Diego. After graduation, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he worked at several fledgeling dot-coms and one globally-dominating video game company. He moved back to Northern Nevada several years ago where he worked in the newspaper business until he began teaching Composition, Fiction and Creative Writing at Truckee Meadows Community College and Sierra Nevada College.

Mark earned his MFA in Creative Writing (Fiction) from Antioch University Los Angeles. His short fiction has appeared in numerous magazines and he's been featured as part of Sierra Nevada College's Writers in the Woods Series, and as part of the Squaw Valley Community of Writers Alumni Reading Series.

Mark is the 2015 recipient of the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame Silver Pen Award and is the founder of the Sierra Literary Alliance. He lives in Sparks, NV.
