Volunteer Job Description - Book Wrangler

 

General Description: Volunteers assist with rounding up books and keeping them in order

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Shelve books according to call number and location
  • Verify books on the shelves are in the correct order
  • Straighten, shift and arrange items in order on the shelves
  • Locate items requested by patrons or library staff
  • Physically process books by stamping, tattle taping, affixing call number labels, and adding dust jackets
  • Repairing damaged books
  • Shelving periodicals in alphabetical order by title
  • Shifting older periodicals from the periodical display to shelving
  • Deaccessioning older periodical issues when microfilm replaces it or according to the schedule established by library policy
Required Qualifications:
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to alphabetize and put items in numerical order
  • Physical ability to push book carts, bend, stretch, reach, lift, and read book spines
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Availability to work 1 - 3 hours at a time, 2+ days a week
Volunteer reports to:
  • Depends on collection
