Genealogy
Most out-of-state libraries have strict limitations on lending and photocopying genealogical materials in addition to restrictions on doing extensive research. Hence, obtaining genealogical materials can be a slow process. NSLAPR can check requests not filled within Nevada on the microfiche catalog of the Sutro Library in California.
When patrons request specific genealogical titles (e.g., family histories or county histories) advise them that most libraries do not circulate these items and they charge for photocopies. If the patron can provide specific surnames or other desired information, some libraries will provide photocopies of those entries. If there is a charge involved, be sure to find out how much the patron is willing to pay. Libraries in Nevada can send requests directly to the Sutro Library for genealogical materials; however, titles must be verified as being owned by Sutro first.
You can access the web site of the California State Library, Sacramento, at http://www.library.ca.gov/, or go directly to their catalogs at https://www.catalog.library.ca.gov
Census Material
NSLAPR owns Nevada census microfilm and will lend it to any Nevada library. Indexes can be checked by the Reference Staff to help identify the needed reels.
Nevada Talking Book Services
The Nevada Talking Book Services processes all requests for Talking Books patrons. The reader notifies the Library directly and gives the title of the item and the format (cassette, disc or Braille) desired. The state is served by Nevada Talking Book Services (775-684-3354 Reno/Carson City area; 1-800-922-9334 statewide).
Large print books are not considered special material and are not handled through the Talking Book Program. Large print books should be requested through normal interlibrary loan channels.
Requests for Braille materials or services are handled by NSLAPR's Nevada Talking Book Services.
