The Library has a wide variety of books on all things Nevada--north and south, urban and rural. The Library tries to purchase every Nevada book that is published. Topics include Nevada history, Native Americans, health issues, transportation studies, geology, art and music, education, societal factors, gambling, guide books, water issues, biographies, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Colorado River and many others. The collection includes directories starting from the 1880s and telephone books beginning in the 1950s. The Library maintains a current and historical collection of Nevada newspapers and periodicals, many of which are on microfilm; some have been digitized. The collection includes theses and dissertations written on Nevada. A vertical file (‘clippings file’) is maintained on a wide variety of topics and consists mainly of newspaper clippings, mimeograph copies, ephemera, pamphlets, and original typescripts. In addition to books, newspapers, periodicals, and microfiche, we also collect maps and a limited number of video materials. The majority of the materials in this collection may be checked out. Library use-only materials may be photocopied.
