Dissertations and theses on Nevada topics are housed at the State Library.
The State Library has a large collection of dissertations and theses related to Nevada. Dissertations and theses are part of the requirements for earning a doctorate (dissertation) or master (theses) degree at most universities. These books often contain original research and data collection that can be found nowhere else. This collection covers a wide range of topics important to Nevada: mining, archeology, history, government, law, education, gambling, Native Americans, medicine, music, Basques, and more. The collection is library use only, though materials may be photocopied.
While many of these works come from in-state universities (such as UNR and UNLV), we collect Nevada related academic materials from all institutions of higher learning. These resources provide new research, unique and current topics, and evolving points of view about Nevada. This collection is an unique resource as dissertations and theses are often available only at their institution of origin, generally on microfilm or electronically. When a dissertation or thesis is available online, it is noted in the catalog listing. Our collection is searchable through the catalog.
