Our special collection consists of 130 linear foot of rare books. As a research library, our rare books collection is part of our core offering to the public and state agencies. Many of the books in this collection are first editions or presentation copies, and many (though not all) pertain in some way to Nevada or the western United States. Some of these books were part of the library's original collection. The oldest book in our collection dates from 1705 (!) and our newest acquisition was published in 1982. Among our rare books collection we count 440 titles, including early editions of books by Walt Whitman, Susan B. Anthony, Jules Verne, and Joseph LeConte. In some cases, our copy is the only available edition in the state. Many of these books have been digitized and are available online through the catalog.
