Summer Reading

What is CSLP?

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) is a national nonprofit partnership that supports public libraries in delivering impactful summer reading initiatives for all ages. CSLP provides shared themes, professional artwork, and programming resources to help libraries build stronger communities through literacy and learning.

Nevada's Participation

The Nevada State Library is a proud CSLP member. This partnership ensures that all public libraries in Nevada have access to program manuals, training, and professionally designed graphics to enhance their summer learning offereings. Libraries can use these resources to create fun and educational experiences for children, teens, and families.

 Why Sumemr Reading Matters

Summer reading programs help prevent learning loss, support academic and social-emotional growth, and keep young minds active during out-of-school months. They also foster lifelong learning by engaging families and community members in discovery and creativity.

CSLP Volunteering and Committee Work

Committees are the lifeblood of CSLP. Volunteering for a CSLP Committee is a great opportunity to develop professionally while also contributing to the CSLP mission. Volunteers have a significant positive impact on the organization and programs. While the duties vary, committee obligations generally run for one calendar year. All committee work is done virtually, either through email, phone, or online meetings.

Summer reading projects are funded by a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Statewide Youth Services grant, provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records.

Programming To Infinity and Beyond

Ever find yourself in need of a ready-made programming solution? Maybe you're planning an event series that would be enhanced by a coordinated theme? Or, perhaps you have a new staff member who would benefit from a treasure trove of ideas and a bank of planning guides? Or possibly... you just need additional inspiration? Whatever the case, remember that through your affiliation with the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records—a Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) member library—you can use the CSLP program manuals beyond summer.

In fact, CSLP encourages libraries to repurpose previous themes and activities to enhance:

  • Winter reading challenges
  • Storytime series
  • School -year outreach
  • STEAM events and more

These resources are a great starting point for new staff or for planning themed programming anytime inspiration is needed. For more information, visit the Rules of Use page on the CSLP website.
