The primary focus of the State Library's collection is to facilitate the work of Nevada's state employees and legislators to better serve its residents. The Library collects materials in print, electronic, and micro formats related to Nevada history, including Nevada history books, biographies, newspapers, directories and phone books, periodicals, atlases, and maps. The Library collects works by Nevada authors writing about Nevada. Additionally, the Library collects state, county, and local government publications via the State Publications Distribution Center program per NRS 378.150, and select Federal publications as a member of the Federal Depository Library Program since 1863.
