This Librarian III Position will work in the Library Planning and Development division of the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records (NSLAPR) as the Professional Development Consultant. The consultant will serve as a key resource and project manager, leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education programs and initiatives for all types of libraries statewide. This position is full-time in-office in Carson City and is funded through a federal grant.

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Master's degree in a program accredited by the American Library Association and two years of professional library experience which included a combination of at least three of the following: original cataloging/metadata, reference, e-resources, social media, managing government publications and/or assisting collection development;
  • OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which included 21 semester credits in library studies and three years of professional library experience as described above; 
  • OR an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university which included 21 semester credits in library studies and four years of professional library experience as described above;
  • Or graduation from high school or equivalent; 21 semester credits in library studies; and seven years experience as described, five years of which were at the professional level.
  • Or one year of experience as a Librarian II in the Nevada State service which included 21 semester credits in library studies;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which included 21 semester credits in library studies. 

Librarian Job Class Specification

Essential Functions

  1. Program Leadership and Development
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate statewide plans for library continuing education and professional development.
    • Coordinate the statewide professional learning program, including training sessions, workshops, resources, and events.
  2. Partnerships, Consulting, and Resource Management
    • Establish and maintain partnerships with local, state, and national departments and organizations to enhance professional learning initiatives.
    • Act as a key resource for library staff statewide, providing guidance on professional learning opportunities and resources. Provide and arrange consulting services as needed.
    • Develop, acquire, and promote professional learning resources and opportunities based on sound instructional design principles.
    • Collaborate with state library staff to maintain an updated collection of professional library and information resources.
  3. Grants and Budget Oversight
    • Oversee the continuing education budget, coordinate grant programs, and contribute to LSTA reports and procedures.
  4. Assessment, Reporting, and Communication
    • Assess and report on professional learning programs and resources, making data-driven recommendations for improvement.
    • Create and maintain documentation, including reports and procedures, for grant programs and professional development initiatives. 
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure alignment with organization goals.
    • Maintain and update relevant content on the state library website and social media.
  5. Professional Representation and Development
    • Represent NSLAPR in professional settings by attending relevant conferences, workshops, and meetings.
    • When possible, serve on committees and participate in advisory groups to enhance professional knowledge and contribute to the field.
    • Monitor national trends and current practices in library development and participate in ongoing professional learning to maintain and develop professional skills and knowledge.
