The Nevada State Historical Records Advisory Board leads collaborative efforts to preserve, promote, and provide equitable access to the documentary heritage of the diverse peoples of Nevada.
The primary purpose of the Nevada State Historical Records Advisory Board is to advise and support Nevada records and archives repositories in developing accessible and efficiently managed programs for their historical records. This includes support for archival education and promotion of grant opportunities.
The State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) is the state level partner of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) for the State of Nevada operating under the authority of the National Archives. The Board is the central advisory body for historical records coordination with the state and for NHPRC state and local records projects within the state. State Historical Advisory Boards are authorized under federal regulations (36 CFR Chapter 12). The NHPRC grant program considers applications from State government agencies only in states where there is an active board (36 CFR 1206.54). The Nevada State Historical Records Advisory Board (NVSHRAB) was created by statute in 1989 and was the first such board created by law in the nation. The governor appoints the Board to advise and make recommendations to the legislature.
