Recognized internationally as Records and Information Management Month (RIMM), it serves as a platform to spotlight the profession's significance and its impact on business. The essence of RIMM lies in emphasizing the pivotal role of organizing and upholding records accross all mediums, crucial for the smooth functioning of any organization.

Originating in 1995 as National Records and Information Management Day, spearheaded by the Association of Records Management and Administrators (ARMA) U.S. Government Relations Committee, its primary aim was to advocate for the renewal of the U.S. Paperwork Reduction Act. Commemorated initially through a luncheon in Wahington D.C., attended by congressional members and government officials, it aimed to not only raise awareness about RIM but also to push for the Act's renewal.

Evolved over the years, the observance expanded from a day to a week in 1997, eventually becoming a month-long celebration in 2003. Today, it transcends national boundaries, garnering participation from various countries.
